Julie Dutton was born in Northridge California, moved to Oregon when she was 12. She has lived between Eugene and Portland ever since. After studying Journalism, Photography and Graphic Design, she was lucky enough to have acquired a 1892 antique letterpress from a close friend. Completely void of knowledge for this craft, Julie started fiddling away in her garage...printing during all of her free time... obsessed with mastering the art without asking for help. At last, she felt competent and printed a few jobs for friends before quitting her design job to devote 100% of her time to building Studio Olivine.
Julie is passionate about letterpress and doesn't know what else would ever make her so happy. Her focus is on illustrating by hand, using the computer as little as possible, and printing interesting unique pieces that break out of the letterpress mold. Julie credits her rogue practices to being self-taught, thus never being reprimanded for breaking the rules of traditional print. Studio Olivine was built in 2005, and has been 100% sustainable and green since the very first day.
