Thanks to the many people that have come by the store just to congratulate us! With Penner & Associates approaching 10 years in business in 2011, we never thought p+a furniture celebrating its 1st year anniversary would garner such attention, and even an article in today's Vancouver Sun ATHOME section by Claudia Kwan. Perhaps surviving one year is an accomplishment in retail!

The newest addition to p+a's burgeoning book collection is "Agricultural Urbanism: Handbook for Building Sustainable Food Systems in 21st Century Cities", by Janine de la Salle and Mark Holland.
Janine de la Salle, Director of Food Systems Planning at HB Lanarc, has recently been awarded the President’s Award for Young Planners by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

p+a furniture targets reducing GHG emissions
p+a furniture and Penner & Associates are working with ClimateSmart to measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through a program co-sponsored by Metro Vancouver and the City of Vancouver. In addition to measuring GHGs for our operations, we'll be measuring GHGs related to transportation of the sustainable goods p+a furniture offers. All this is in an effort to reduce GHGs by 25% by 2015 (from 2010 levels).

The LUprints workshop is located in the small mountain town of Pemberton BC. LUprints textiles are manufactured with the utmost care, and attention to the small details that only a handmade product can profess. LUprints' main designer, Ulla Clark, was introduced to Scandinavian textiles at a young age through her Swedish mother. Her memories of the beautiful yet functional textiles, combined with her strong affection for nature, are a constant inspiration for new products and prints.

Perhaps wishful thinking as we ready to welcome the world to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics! Snow would be helpful, if only to uphold the world's perception that Canadians live in igloos.
Of late, we've had mysterious calls asking where the snow came from for Penner & Associates' modernist gingerbread house, and whether we'd be willing to sell it!
On that note, typical construction delays (AKA real work) prevented us from finishing the house in December. Now complete, Penner & Associates' design uses alimentary principles of sustainable design, featuring comestible construction, a south-facing glazed wall for passive solar heating, a north wall recessed into the slope of the hill, raised floors with radiant heating, rammed earth retaining walls, and, as the icing on the cake, a green roof.

We're also excited about the sparkly addition to the neighbourhood, more specifically our block. The "W' atop the Woodward's development was illuminated and set in motion the evening of January 15!
